Call Your Senators and Representatives and Inform them of the Price of Defeat on August 30
The House and Senate are now in the midst of their August recess, following their inability to get any significant legislation in favor of an arbitrary withdrawal signed into law. Congress is expected to remain out of session until September 3rd, and will likely address the 2008 Defense Appropriations bill as well as the much anticipated reports of General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker upon their return.
While our federal elected officials are home listening to their constituents, we must take advantage of the lull to remind them of the costs of withdrawal and retreat from Iraq. On August 16, Vets for Freedom and Families United for the Troops and their Mission had a national call day, and we will follow this action up with a call day of our own on August 30.
Mark your calendars for this date and call your members of Congress to inform them of the price of defeat. Remind them that an arbitrary withdrawal and retreat from Iraq would lead to the following things:
- A humanitarian disaster in Iraq involving hundreds of thousands of additional civilian casualties, degrading into genocide and anarchy
- The creation of a safe haven for Al-Qaeda with which it could prepare attacks on the United States and neighboring states
- An energized Iran which would dominate at least the Shiite-inhabited south and attempt hegemony in the Middle East
On Thursday, August 30th, call your US Representative and both Senators at their offices in your home state. Find your Representative's local office here and your Senators' offices here. Remember to call their home offices and not their DC offices like we have in the past. After you call, please send us a quick e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know! Together we can make an impact and allow General Petraeus and our troops to continue their successes in Iraq.
